All lead by greedy men who desired nothing more than to rule the island. Since then the villages were merged into one large city that covers the majority of the island. The city was named Nam Cai, and is now lead by the Eomeoni (The Mother), and the Circle of Ttal (Daughters). The Eomeoni will heed the words of the Ttal, and she will make the final decision. The Eomeoni are chosen from birth, and are sought out by the Ttal. It is speculated that the spirit of Moon Chae-Won is reborn in a new body. During this time, the existing Eomeoni continues to rule until either ill health or old age, brings and end to her duty. The city of Nam Cai is considerably wealthy. Much trade goes on there, as well as the requisition of service from the Moon Agma Clan's Elite Guard, the Forked-Tongue Charmers. This elite cadre of women specialises in the discrete manipulation of military personnel, political figures, market leaders, and so on. It is said that empires have been built and fallen at the word of the Charmers of Jeju. This group is considered incredibly secretive, and no one from outside of Nam Cai has ever been permitted to join, or even associate with this group. It is comprised only of the daughters of Jeju Island. Even women from Nam Cai have to go through the strictest of rituals and rites of initiation before membership is considered. There is no significant military presence on the island of Jeju save for the port of Subau, and the widely revered / feared fleet of the Imathion (sea snake). This fleet has kept the shores of Jeju and surrounding waters of Thunang safe for many a century. Many a Naval Force have tried to enter the sovereign waters of Jeju with hostile intent, only to be swiftly destroyed. The Corsair fleet is currently lead by Daejang T'ae Hyun-Ju. A greatly respected Admiral who is referred to, by many, as Teunteunhan Taepung, or The Unyielding Typhoon. Lords and generals have all requested the aid of the Imathion Fleet in their Naval Campaigns, but have been swiftly refused. The people of Jeju Island have strong beliefs in the strength of women, and regard men as nothing more than a means to an end. Men are not allowed to live on Jeju Island, but are permitted to visit / trade under strict supervision. When it comes time for children, the women of the island journey forth to find suitable mates. If a daughter is born of this pairing, there is no further bond between the father and daughter, other than the knowledge that a father exists. It is considered taboo for daughters to seek out their fathers. If a son is born, then the child is returned to the father to raise, and the mother would seek out a new partner. The daughters are raised communally, by many women, and do not know who their actual birth mother is. As such, the daughters refer to all women as mother. This reinforces the feelings of loyalty of these children to their sisters, and mothers. When a child reaches a certain level of maturity, they tend to stop referring to the elder women as mothers, and refer to them by name instead. ask/jeju_island.txt Last modified: 2019/03/11 14:44by khellmg
