Session 10
Whilst the party was dealing with the warehouse, Chae had been left alone with Yisul. She took the opportunity to try to train Minami. After some coaxing, she convinced Minami to sting the captive to try to figure out how the venom worked. Unfortunately, Yisul hadn't been given a chance to rest so was immediately knocked unconscious again by the damage. Minami continued to stab at him, eventually killing him, and at Chae's urging then began to eat his face. Realising she'd maybe gone too far, she disguised the body in the bed and left to find the others.
Back at the warehouse the others begin investigating the methods that the last of their assailants could have used to escape. Kana noticed that the body Sassani had left on the street bore the distinctive clasped-hand tattoo of the Goto Mei, and Ryo, Wei and Sassani located the likely escape route of their suspect. Kathra and Chae rendezvoused with the group, but just as they were about to go after their mark a commotion started in the burning building. The people who were trying to extinguish the fire came running out followed by two fire elementals, summoned into being by the sudden expression of their element.
Realising that if left unchecked the elementals would burn down more of Downriver, the group stayed and fought them. This won them the admiration of the locals, who saw the effort that they group went through to save their homes. However, as they were battered and exhausted, the crew then headed back to The Crooked Oar with a brief detour to the shops en route to recover. Once rested, Ryo, Kana and Wei Liang went back to snoop on the building. Unfortunately they were spotted, and learned little other than that there were archers stationed on the roof. They returned with this news to the rest of the group, who then decided to send Chae and Suna on a fact-finding mission with the others stationed nearby in case of emergency.
Suna cast Detect Thoughts on herself and Sassani then cast invisibility on her. Thus disguised she followed Chae as she approached the building and knocked on the door. Using the surface thoughts of the person who came up inside the door Suna relayed a secret knock to Chae, who then rapped it on the door. The eye slit opened, and Chae convinced the man inside to open up and let her in after name-dropping some other members of the Goto Mei that Qutai had picked up at The Pit. She said that the man was needed at The Pit, but that due to the warehouse fire nearby the person who wanted to talk him wasn't willing to come to the building to meet. The man wasn't entirely convinced, but left Chae unattended for a few moments whilst he went to write a letter back to Botai. Chae used the opportunity to open the door and let Suna in, who'd been trapped outside.
Suna snooped the rest of the building whilst Chae waited, discovering the man that Sassani had burned healing on a table, two archers on the roof, and an elderly lady sat at a desk in a well-furnished room. Whilst she was gone the man came back and gave Chae a letter to relay, then kicked her back out of the building. When Kana returned downstairs she found she'd been shut in, and accidentally was overheard opening the door to sneak out. Chae used Prestidigitation to set off a firework-like effect outside, but a little too late to disguise the noise. Elsewhere, though, the rest of the party mistook the firework for the panic signal and began moving towards the building. The man realised that something weird was going on as he saw the door closing itself, and called out to the archers to kill Chae. As the archers took shots at her, Chae took cover behind a shack to wait for reinforcements to arrive.
